The news is finally here! Toyota is bringing back the Supra for the model year 2020 and the fun 2-door coupe never looked so good. Designed to respond to demand for a performance sports car that surpasses the respectable 86, the Supra rolls onto the scene in late 2019 with updated contemporary styling that offers plenty of performance. Built with the race track in mind, the designers have even included multiple side air vents that are closed over for mass-production but can be easily removed when creating a ride to take to the track. This new machine with a throwback name will offer the first generation buyers a car that is a stunning addition for the garage, provides heart-pounding power and offers all the amenities you expect in a 21st-century machine. Read on to find out what you need to know about the new Toyota Supra!

The 2020 Toyota Supra

  • Beauty with function
  • Power without bulk
  • Interior that sings
  • Launch Edition

Beauty with Function

The engineers at Toyota took the classic 2-door design of the previous Supra look and applied twenty years of success to tweaking its appearance and its ability. Its front grille includes two large side intakes that directly feed the turbocharged engine with cool air to boost horsepower. The hood bulge directs air up to skim over the double-bubble of the cockpit. Yes, that earns extra headroom inside but also works to disturb drag. Finally, the rear spoiler helps to seat the rear drive on the road for a lively and confident drive around the most demanding corners.

Highlights

  • Hungry air intakes
  • Double-bubble cockpit
  • Curvaceous rear spoiler

Power without Bulk

You will get excited when the inline 6-cylinder engine roars to life as its design is borrowed from the BMW Z4 that creates a most satisfying rumble. Careful 50/50 weight distribution means that when you put the pedal down, the rear wheel drive is able to take advantage of all 365 lb-ft of torque and 335 horsepower to roar down the street achieving 60 mph in a stunning 4.1 seconds. In years past you would expect these numbers to be paired with a hungry V8—not anymore. Give the Supra a twist of the wheel and you will be drifting through the corners for boatloads of thrills at your local track.

Highlights

  • Inline 6-cylinder engine
  • 50/50 weight distribution
  • 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds

Interior Styling that Sings

Of course, when you buy a two-seater sports car like the Supra, you expect a pair of low bucket seats for you and your passenger. You won’t be disappointed here, but you will be pleased to find side bolsters for added comfort in the turns, heat, and leather-wrapped shifters. The Supra will feature the iDrive 6.0 borrowed from the BMW crowd that offers easy connection to your smartphone. Expect to find a lap timer, RPM monitor, and driver information center to help improve your performance.

Highlights

  • Side-bolstered sport seats
  • iDrive 6.0
  • Digital driver information center
