Order management software (sometimes called order fulfillment software) is designed to help sellers process orders, keep track of sales, and avoid errors. The kind of software you need depends on the size of your business, but anyone who processes more than a few orders a day likely needs an order management system to keep from making errors that cost customers and sully your reputation. Fortunately, there are a lot of different software systems out there - all of them different and varying in size, price and suitability for different sizes of business. Some are one time payments, many are now subscription-based. Five of the best are Freightview, Fishbowl, Stitch Labs, Ordoro and CrazyVendor.

Top 5 Order Management System Software

  • Freightview
  • Fishbowl
  • Stitch Labs
  • Ordoro
  • CrazyVendor

Freightview

Freightview is designed for small to medium businesses that ship LTL (Less than truckload) freight and work with multiple carriers. Its customers include some large businesses. This software features a unified address book, and is particularly useful for tracking shipping costs (and shipments) as it will let you directly compare your various shipping vendors. They are also known for a good response time on customer service, but they are very focused on the shipping side and are not as effective for order management.

Highlights

  • Allows direct comparison of shipping vendors
  • Unified address book
  • Fast customer service response time

Fishbowl

Fishbowl must be mentioned because of its easy add-on to QuickBooks. This software is very useful for companies that already use Quickbooks. This is a good option for small companies, especially sole proprietors. It offers a good inventory management system that can handle multiple locations, will set up auto reorders, and integrates not just with QuickBooks but with Salesforce, Ready, and many others. There is a 14-day free trial - and while it is a great solution for small companies, some larger businesses use it too. There is also a barcode creation and multi-currency functionality, so should not be seen as just an “add-on.”

Highlights

  • Works with QuickBooks
  • Multi-currency functionality
  • Great for small companies

Stitch Labs

Stitch Labs is for mid-sized companies and is particularly useful if you conduct both brick and mortar and online sales - it syncs inventory and orders across multiple channels automatically and works well with popular online retail services such as Amazon and Shopify. The idea is to streamline everything into a single place and help you get a holistic view of your business. Stitch Labs also offers scalable pricing levels - but it is more expensive than many of the others on the list and to get the full features might be out of the reach of some small businesses.

Highlights

  • Syncs multiple sales channels
  • Holistic business view
  • More expensive

Ordoro

Like FreightView, this is a shipping app first and foremost, and is designed to do hands free drop shopping and process batch orders efficiently. It has the fastest shipping label creation and, like Stitch Lab, can handle multiple sales channels. There is an option to send out automatic POs to suppliers, and works well with Amazon, Shopify and Etsy. Ordoro offers shipping-only accounts for a low price if you do not need full featured order management. The price is considerably cheaper than Stitch Lab, but does not have quite the same holistic setup and it does limit the number of orders per month.

Highlights

  • Fast shipping label creation
  • Offers shipping-only accounts
  • Limited number of orders per month

CrazyVendor

CrazyVendor has the advantage of giving you unlimited users at any pricing tier, but at the price of a lower limit in orders processed. The big advantage, though, is that it is a web-based service, which is great if you need to be able to fill orders from any location. It also prints good shipping menus and does offer great time reduction.

Highlights

  • Web-based system
  • Low limit of orders processed
  • Unlimited users

Conclusion

Whichever order management system you use - do your research and make sure you pick the right one for your businesses stage of growth and ideally one which scales with you. There’s no point in paying for features that your business won’t use.
